An investigation of how topography, liquid density, and sequencing influences patterns of saturation and flow across layers of different materials. I performed four experiments of pouring five liquids on stacked materials, with each experiment operating on a different combination of sequence and initial topography. The board includes pictures of the final states of each material layer photographed from the top and from the bottom. The section diagrams outline the change in material layer profile after each pour, and the shape that each liquid took after settling on each layer. The arrows reflect the location and speed of liquid filtration through each layer.
Below are timelapsed videos of the pouring process.
